Frugl Grocery - Mobile App Design

Mar-Apr 2022; Sep 2022

Frugl Group reached out to me to work on new features and UX improvements for their price comparison app. Throughout the project, I collaborated closely with the project manager and development team. Since the app's relaunch with a new interface in January, it has experienced a significant increase in downloads and new users. Our main goal has been to retain users by enhancing the user experience and introducing new features according to the roadmap

Overview

Frugl Grocery is a grocery price comparison and list building app that help Australians cut back on household costs by finding cheaper prices on groceries. Features such as in-app transactions, fulfillment methods, reference program, coupons are being gradually introduced.

Goals

• New feature integrations as more retailers were onboard
• UX Improvement
• Retain users

My Role

As the sole UX/UI designer for the project, I worked closely with the project manager and developers. I was responsible for:
• Ideating and sketching
• Userflows
• Hi-fidelity UI design
• Design handoff

Outcomes

New features are being developed and internally tested before release, with the aim of adding value to users. The implementation of these features is part of an ongoing effort to improve the user experience and meet the evolving needs of the growing user base.

Features

Features

Curbside Pickup

The app allows customers to pass vehicle information to store staff seamlessly upon arriving at the carpark or curbside. By simply specifying their vehicle type, colour, and number plate, customers can quickly provide the necessary info to the staff. For added convenience, repeat customers' info is stored in the app, enabling them to complete the process in just one click.

Dietary Profile

The app lets health-conscious consumers set nutrient targets, marked by a dietary icon in product display, enabling quick filtering based on their preferences. Users also receive nutrient intake analysis based on their purchases, offering valuable dietary insights.

Product Reporting

To improve data quality, we encourage user participation by introducing a product reporting feature. Users can report inaccuracies such as outdated prices, mixed-up details, or incorrect barcodes. This feature sends a clear message to our users that we prioritise data integrity.

Fulfillment Methods

Our new iteration added transactional capabilities, allowing users to order directly from retailers within the app via in-store pickup, curbside pickup, or delivery. To ensure minimal disruption for users primarily using the app for price comparison and grocery list management, we integrated the ordering feature as a subtle option.

Onboarding

To ensure users can easily discover new features, we have integrated a third-party onboarding library. This library allows us to showcase previously unknown features to users in a user-friendly way. Users can choose to opt out of this feature.

Referral & Affiliate Programs

The team planned to introduce two marketing programs to increase reach: a referral program that rewards users for signing up friends, and an affiliate program that compensate influencers for promoting app products with custom links.
